More than finding names
Finding suppliers is easy. Knowing which ones to work with is the hard part.
Alibaba, trade fairs, directories and commercial contacts can quickly produce a list of candidates. The challenge is determining which ones really match the product, volume, market and conditions of your project.
- 01
Is it a manufacturer or a middleman?
The company selling the product is not always the one making it. Identifying each supplier's real role helps you interpret prices, capabilities and responsibilities correctly.
- 02
Can they actually make what I need?
A factory may work in a similar category and still lack the process, components, capacity or experience required for your product.
- 03
Are the quotes comparable?
Two quotations may include different specifications, MOQ, packaging, Incoterms, lead times or conditions. Comparing unit price alone can lead to the wrong conclusion.
- 04
What should I check before paying?
Company details, documentation, the receiving bank account, declared capabilities, terms and available evidence should be reviewed in proportion to the risk and value of the project.
We can search from scratch or review suppliers you have already found
Your project
I have no suppliers yet
We start from the product, specifications, volume, target market and objectives to identify potentially compatible manufacturers.

We can analyse the suppliers you are already evaluating, review their information and compare them before you decide which to take forward.
Review my suppliersOur process
From a product need to a usable shortlist
- 01
We define the supplier profile
Product, known specifications, quantities, target cost, market, customisation, lead times and any other relevant requirement.
- 02
We search for manufacturers
We identify candidates through the sources that suit each category and project.
- 03
We filter candidates
We rule out options that do not match the main requirements and concentrate the analysis on a manageable group of suppliers.
- 04
We review the information
We go through the available data and documentation and request clarification where relevant points are not sufficiently clear.
- 05
We compare conditions
We organise the information so product, customisation, MOQ, price, lead times, commercial terms and other relevant factors can be compared.
- 06
We define the next step
Depending on the outcome, we move on to more detailed quotations, samples, negotiation, further review, or discard candidates before committing to an order.
The goal is not to collect contacts, but to narrow the field down to options that genuinely deserve a deeper evaluation.

Validation
What we review before recommending a supplier
01Company identity
We review the available company information and check that the entity you negotiate and invoice with is consistent with the proposed operation.
02Declared activity and capacity
We look at what they manufacture, which processes they declare, which categories they work in, and whether the information provided is compatible with the project.
03Relevant experience
Where evidence is available, we assess experience with comparable products, markets or requirements.
04Documentation and certifications provided
We request and review the documentation relevant to the project. A certificate presented by a supplier should not automatically be treated as sufficient proof of product compliance.
05Commercial conditions
MOQ, price, payment, Incoterm, lead time, samples, tooling, packaging and responsibilities can reveal important differences between apparently similar suppliers.
06Communication and consistency
Technical and commercial answers during the process also help detect contradictions, lack of clarity or aspects that need further review.
The depth of verification depends on the product, the value, the risk and the agreed scope. Where a physical audit or factory inspection is required, it is expressly defined as an additional or project-specific activity.
Factory, trading company or both?
Not every operation has to buy directly from a factory. A specialised intermediary can add value in certain categories, quantities or projects. What matters is knowing who you are working with and what role they play.
Manufacturer
May offer:
- Direct control over production.
- Greater customisation capability.
- Direct access to certain processes.
Trading company / intermediary
May contribute:
- Access to several factories.
- Consolidation.
- More flexible quantities.
- Specialised knowledge of certain categories.
We do not automatically rule out a supplier for being an intermediary. We assess whether their model adds value or introduces unnecessary cost and risk to the operation.
A shortlist should make a decision possible
A useful search does not end with a list of contacts: it structures the comparison so the decision can be made on equivalent criteria.

The cheapest supplier is not always the lowest-cost option
A unit price only means something when you know what it includes. Specifications, materials, packaging, MOQ, tooling, Incoterm, inspections, defects, documentation and freight can all change the real cost of an operation.
Before ordering, compare products and not only quotations
Where the type of product allows it, samples help check differences a spreadsheet cannot show: finishes, materials, dimensions, function, packaging or consistency with the specifications.

A good supplier does not automatically make the product compliant
A company's capability and product compliance are related but different questions. That is why supplier validation does not replace the technical and regulatory review a product may require.

Real experience
From a product need to viable suppliers
Published case of a European distributor buying through intermediaries that needed to identify and review alternative manufacturers.
- 01Context
- A European distributor buying through intermediaries, with no visibility over who actually manufactured its products or over the cost structure.
- 02Need
- Reach factories directly, stabilise quality between orders and gain control over lead times and costs without setting up its own office in China.
- 03Development
- Analysis of the existing range, identification of the references with most room for improvement and selection of alternative manufacturers with real capacity for the product type and volumes involved.
- 04Production
- Direct negotiation in Chinese of prices, terms and lead times, definition of finish standards per reference and production follow-up with regular reporting to the client.
- 05Quality and compliance
- In-process and pre-shipment inspection against acceptance criteria agreed in writing, so issues are corrected at the factory rather than on arrival.
- 06Outcome
- The distributor now works with identified, vetted factories, written quality criteria and a predictable replenishment calendar, reducing the issues that previously appeared when goods were unpacked.

Frequently asked questions about suppliers and manufacturers in China
01How do you search for manufacturers in China?
We start from the product requirements and use the search sources that suit each project. We then filter candidates before going deeper into quotations and validation.
02How do I know whether a supplier is really a factory?
The available company and operational information has to be reviewed. Depending on the level of risk it may also be advisable to request additional documentation, hold video calls or coordinate a physical verification.
03Do you only work with factories?
No. A trading company or intermediary can be appropriate in certain projects. What matters is understanding their role and assessing whether they offer real advantages over buying directly from the manufacturer.
04How many suppliers do you look for?
We do not apply a fixed number to every project. The aim is to have enough alternatives to compare without turning the process into a barely analysed list of contacts.
05Do you verify certifications?
We review the relevant documentation the supplier provides and the points that need checking for that product. The mere existence of a document does not in itself guarantee product compliance.
06Can you review a supplier I already have?
Yes. We can work solely on one or more candidates your company is already evaluating.
07Can you obtain samples?
Yes, when it is part of the scope we can coordinate requesting, shipping and comparing samples.
08Do you negotiate the price?
Yes. If the project continues after the sourcing phase we can negotiate price, MOQ, payment terms, lead times, Incoterms and other commercial aspects.
09Do you carry out physical factory audits?
When the project requires it we can coordinate a specific physical verification or audit. The scope has to be defined according to the product, supplier and level of risk.
10What do you need to get started?
The product or a reference, available specifications, approximate quantity, target market and any important requirement. The better defined the product, the more precise the search can be.
